barometer: Bright and sunny, with over 19,700 visitors
- 1,000 more opticians at opti '09
- opti ´09 sends a strong positive signal to the optics sector
- opti ´09 sets new standards as the most important meeting place for the optics sector
Weather reports don´t come much
better than this – three days of glorious sunshine, outside and inside the four
exhibition halls. Over 19,700 visitors came along to this, the most important meeting
place for ophthalmic opticians in Germany, an event that covers the entire product
spectrum in the optics and eyewear sector. In 2009 this range covered fashionable
spectacle frames, contact lenses and shopfittings as well as innovative new types
of lenses. For this extensive range of products and services, set out on 35,000 square
metres of hall space and featuring 430 different exhibitors, a rating of "very good
to good" was given by around 94% of the opticians surveyed by an independent market
research company. It was therefore not surprising to discover also that three-quarters
of the visitors had made use of the event to place orders. "This wide range of products
and services is the key to the success of opti. Attendance at opti is without doubt
a must for the entire ophthalmic optics sector, because it pays to be here in Munich.
Key features, for example, were the opti Forum, the Alumni Meeting, OPTIMIERT –
the model shop and the WVAO Symposium on contact lenses. opti has given the sector
a boost of vitamins for the year of business in 2009," said Dieter Dohr, Managing
Director of GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH.
The motto
for opti this year was 'brandheiß' (= red hot). For the opticians attending
the event, the main motive had been to see these new innovations. The most popular
sections among visitors were 'Frames' and the 'Designs & Trends' area. In particular
with the latter, opti made a great leap forward. This year for the first time the
audience had the opportunity to experience the new 'YES!' Hall. The YES! concept at
opti '09 set new standards in design competence; and 85 percent of the opticians rated
it as "very good to good" in the survey.
opti ´09
has set the tone for an even broader international scope for the trade show, not only
because of the return of the international companies. Groups of visitors from abroad
and high-ranking international visitor delegations from Turkey, Hungary, Switzerland,
Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Bulgaria also attended the event.
The members of these delegations were able to talk in Munich direct to the CEOs of
the individual firms and, at the opti Campus, gather information about the optics
education and training courses in Germany that are renowned worldwide.
opti ´09
exuded optimism. For it sent a strong and positive signal to the sector, even
in the current economic climate. This view was also shared by the two presidents of
ZVA and SPECTARIS, Thomas Nosch and Josef May. "Satisfied faces, a positive mood and
an excellent atmosphere on all three days of the trade show – among
the colleagues, exhibitors and visitors. There was little sign of the economic downturn
and a cautious approach to new purchases. The German optics sector had high hopes
that opti, the first big event in the sector in 2009, would send a positive signal,
and as I see it, it has done that very well," said Nosch. May was just as upbeat about
the three-day show: "A really good mood, great stands and excellent organisation.
The optics sector seems to be very firm in refusing to be dragged down by all this
talk of recession. opti ´09 was great fun, and now we have to take that good
mood and communicate this message further."
opti ´10 takes place from
15 to 17 January 2010 at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. The
event is a reliable date in the international exhibitions calendar. In 2010 the Munich
venue will be even more attractive thanks to the opening of a new entrance to Hall
C1.
